WAYN: Wayne Bridge

Wayne Bridge born August 5th, 1980 in Southampton, England joined Chelsea July 21st, 2003 from Southampton for 7 million pounds plus Graeme Le Saux, a 35yr old left back.  He started off with a very memorable first season which saw him pick up the goal of the season award for his 88th minute effort against Arsenal it the Champions League.  A broken ankle cut his second season short and he arrival of Del Horno in the 2005/2006 season saw Wayne make a January loan move to Fulham.  After returning from 2006 World Cup he would see WC teammate Ashley Cole join the club and the two would through injuries mainly rotate the position over that season.  Many pundits said that their performances were indistinguishable or possibly Wayne filled the role a bit better than Ashley.  Last season however Grant favored Ashley in most games but he did still feature in the Carling Cup Final.  In the preseason 2008/2009 Wayne signed a 4 year deal keeping him at the Bridge until 2012 and making him the first signing I have looked at that is still here.  His current Chelsea stats 133 appearances and 4 goals.
